Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor were our home for 3 nights. Our campsite at Bar Harbor Campground had an ocean view. This is a great campground to stay at. They had tons of first come first serve campsites with different levels of hookups. There’s also laundry, and a playground. It’s a great location for getting to Acadia as well.
We started off our visit by getting lobster dinner nearby. It was a beautiful sunset right on the water.
We went to Cadillac Mountain first. The kids loved being able to “touch” the low clouds blowing right over our heads. We weren’t anticipating Acadia to be so crowded this late in the season but almost every parking lot was packed. We got lucky going to Sandy Beach with a great parking spot but our luck quickly ran out.
Sand Beach was really fun for the kids to play in the sand. The water was super cold at 55 degrees but they still had fun dipping their toes in the water and making sand castles. We attempted to go to Jordan Pond for a hike but the parking lot was completely full. We switched tactics and decided to go to the western part of Mt Desert Island.
We drove over to the Wonderland Hike which was perfect for the kids. There were all sorts of tidepools to check out, and large boulders to climb on. We tried driving to the Bass Harbor lighthouse after, but that parking lot was also full.
The next day we went to Thunder Hole and Jordan Pond where we at lunch. Thunder Hole has a fun area to climb on rocks as well and look at tidepools. Unfortunately I lost my balance and hit my elbow hard on a rock and scraped it really bad. I’m on the mend though. We went to Jordan Pond House and ate lunch on the open lawn just past the Cafe. We ended our trip at Sieur de Monts for a Jr Ranger program on colors of nature. The program was great and helped the kids finish their Jr Ranger books and earn their badges.
