National Park Recap: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Ben had felt bad all the previous day, and the day of travel to Black Canyon, James and I definitely felt sick. Andrew followed the next day. Unfortunately we all got covid and that put a huge damper on our visit to Black Canyon. We still managed to get outside for a bit on some deserted trails and stayed away from people as much as possible. We wore masks whenever around people.

On the drive up we drove through Curecanti NRA which looked beautiful, but very low water level. The first picture is of some pinnacles in the NRA that we drove past and a partially frozen lake.

We went to an overlook at Black Canyon, and a few small trails from the visitor center for some other views. Much of the park is closed during the winter anyway, and the trails designated for snowshoe and cross country skiing had almost completely melted clean when we were there.

The majority of our time here was spent entertaining Ben as best as we could because he got over covid in like 1 day and was bouncing off walls while the rest of us felt like absolute trash.

We spent quite a bit of time watching what seemed to be at least 20 baby ground squirrels running around our campsite, spotting our resident bunny, various birds that visited us in the bush right outside our dining table window, and spotting a small herd of deer on the main park road.
