Our 4th day in NYC, we stayed local to where we were staying in Long Island. We visited the Long Island Children’s Museum, and the Amazing Maize Maze. The Long Island Children’s Museum was a really fun museum for the kids. I really liked the layout of the museum and the different themes as well. There was a toddler area where kids could pretend to drive busses, diggers, etc. Then there was a whole section on different types of communication like morse code, telephones, and tubes. You could call someone on the next level up, or send a morse code message to them. There was a whole fix-it section where the kids could learn about toy repair, generic auto repair, and laying bricks in a wall. The bricks in the wall just DEMANDED we recreate the Kool-Aid Man smash. The museum also has a sock skating area, where kids can “skate” in their socks. Unfortunately this area was closed while we were there.
After the children’s museum, we went to the Amazing Maize Maze, which is a giant corn maze that has a different theme every year at the Queens County Farm Museum. This is a working farm that sells produce to the community as well as holding community events. This year’s maze was fashioned after Andy Warhol’s Cow. There was an amazing stalk talk given prior to entering the maze. I regretted not recording it. It spoke of quests, and adventure. The maze had 9 mailboxes to collect game pieces, and various clues all about the farm and Warhol, that filled in a crossword puzzle. We found the exit to the maze before collecting all of the gameboard pieces, so we turned around to go find those. We ended up collecting all gameboard pieces, and all crossword clues in just under an hour! It was a fun challenge for us as a team.
