Travel Recap: Tampa and Gainseville, FL

Tampa and Gainesville recap: We camped at Fort Desoto State Park outside St Petersburg for several days. We visited the Manatee Viewing Center one day and climbed the observation tower, hiked around the nature trails, and saw the manatees on the coastal trail. We spent another morning visiting the Great Explorations Children’s Museum, and Maximo Park Playground. Andrew went for a bit to the beach at Fort Desoto. We had a great time at the Manatee Viewing Center, Children’s Museum, and Maximo Park.

On our way north we decided to stop in Gainesville to break up the trip. We found Cade Museum which is an awesome science museum! We made playdough and slime, the kids learned a bit about coding in Scratch and using TinkerCAD, we made shrinky dinks, solved a riddle and won a toy, and did a scavenger hunt. Next to Cade is Depot Park which has one of the most fun playgrounds we’ve been to. Someone threw in a ton of giant yoga balls into the playground and the kids were absolutely delighted. The playground itself has a really great variety of equipment and things to climb on for all different ages. We got pizza at a food truck parked long term at the park, and went back to playing. The park itself is a nature preserve and beautiful to walk around.

Onward further north!
