COVID-19

It feels like we’re on the run again. Last time it was in late August 2017 when fires in Oregon and NorCal chased us home. This time it’s due to COVID-19.

Camping options are limited. Most state parks are now closed. RV parks are still open but have limited, short-term availability. National Park campsites are mostly open still, but visitor centers are closed. Some businesses like casinos that normally allow RV’ers to park overnight in their lots are turning folks away.

I’m confident that we will be fine. We are fortunate to have options within a day’s drive to stay with friends and family. As Liz mentioned on Facebook, others may not be so fortunate if campgrounds close; they would be homeless, and many cities prohibit parking on streets at night. Hopefully there will be some leniency during this crisis.

Today we drove through Hot Springs, AR today with a brief stop to walk the Promenade and enjoy the brief sunshine.

Now we are near Little Rock, AR. A thunderstorm with severe winds is expected tonight, with a tornado watch in effect. We hope to weather it out and still try to make it to Mammoth Caves, the Great Smoky Mountains, and Atlanta. There are rightly no tours running, but it would be great to keep away from everyone by hiking the trails.

The calm before the storm.
