National Park Recap: Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is an interesting park. It has several areas with quite a few hikes but you have to drive to them. Unfortunately we really only had 1 day to check this place out and it was super rainy all day.

We broke another leaf spring near Flint, MI and spent the entire next day waiting for it to be repaired instead of leaving for Ohio in the morning like we had planned. We ended up arriving very late in the evening at our campground. We were thankful we were still able to make our reservation though or we would’ve had to rebook 4 other reservations also.

Since we didn’t have a lot of time (and it was raining) we picked a very easy hike to a waterfall, and then got last minute tickets on the scenic train through the park. The train ride was lovely and is definitely a great way to see the entire park (especially on a rainy day). The train has several pick up locations so you can pick what makes sense for you. We decided to do half the trip by getting on about mid way and not doing the entire length. There was also a neat kids program with crafting and reading we were considering. The kids got a bit antsy toward the end. We were glad we decided to get on midway.

After seeing the park on the train I was a bit bummed we wouldn’t be able to spend more time hiking. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t cooperating.
