Travel Recap: New Orleans, LA

New Orleans recap:
We stayed 5 nights at Bayou Segnette State Park on the West Bank. Our first day we drove to Jean Lafitte Barataria Preserve. We hiked two of the boardwalk trails and earned Jr Ranger badges.

The next day we went into the city and the Jazz National Historical Park. The Jazz NHP visitor center has moved in with the French Quarter visitor center of Jean Lafitte NHP. We watched an excellent Park movie about the history of the Mississippi River, checked out some instruments, and earned another Jr Ranger badge. We walked to the French Market for some beignets and sat in Jackson Square for a bit listening to a street Jazz band. After, we drove to friends Rob and Emily to get some packages, meet kiddos, and catch up a bit since the last time we saw each other. Rob gifted us an amazing king cake.

On day 3 we went into uptown and did a little driving tour of some house floats, and met up with Emily and her daughters to watch an official parade! Krewes of Oshun, Alla, and Cleopatra were awesome and paraded for hours. We got all sorts of fun toys and throws. Emily’s coworker alerted us to a special prize giveaway for catching the dubloons from Cleopatra. I put the kids on high alert for dubloons. Ben (king of finding money on the ground) found 3 by himself! We redeemed the dubloons early on and ended up winning one of the grand prizes (a 55″ 65″ tv)! Emily ended up winning the other! So crazy!

We laid low the next day and did some cleaning around the trailer.

Our last full day we met up with a fellow Engineer Mom, LeeAnn, and her family at Louisiana Children’s Museum. The kids had a great time at the museum and I had fun chatting with and meeting LeeAnn.

NOLA I think will always hold a special place in our hearts. Andrew and I love this city and have visited before together (almost exactly 10 years ago). I really hope we come visit sooner than 10 years next time!
