Travel Recap: Little Talbot Island State Park

Little Talbot Island State Park outside of Jacksonville, FL was amazingly peaceful. There were so few people at the beach we sat and played in the sand for 2 hours and only 2 people walked near us during that entire time. The waves here also have a really unique sound because of all the shells. It sounds almost like a rain stick when the wave goes out.

Our campground was also very quiet and peaceful. The spots available all said tent camper only. I called ahead and double checked that we’d fit, however, and I’m so glad I did. The state parks are the best camping deal in all of Florida. $30 a night for water and electric, and a really nice bathhouse. The campground itself at Little Talbot has been reduced to 18 spots due to climate change and raising ocean levels (leaving over half the previous sites damaged from salt water flooding). In addition, because of covid, they’ve reduced capacity and made some spots unavailable. The spots are very shady, and can fit smaller travel trailers as long as you aren’t too tall. The spot we got had a low tree limb I had to navigate around. It wasn’t the easiest spot to get into but we thoroughly enjoyed it.
